Fundamento y objetivo: tanto la disfunción endotelial como la inflamación están presentes en la obesidad. La ingesta de una alta carga de glucosa puede afectar a la expresión de las moléculas de adhesión. El objetivo de este trabajo es evaluar los valores séricos de la forma soluble de la molécula de adhesión intercelular-1 (sICAM-1), la forma soluble de la molécula de adhesión a células vasculares-1 (sVCAM-1) y la forma soluble de la molécula de adhesión de los leucocitos al endotelio (sE-selectina) en mujeres obesas con tolerancia normal a la glucosa, así como evaluar el rol de la ingesta de una sobrecarga de glucosa sobre estos valores. Sujetos y método: la población del estudio estuvo conformada por 21 mujeres obesas (índice de masa corporal [IMC] medio de 37,7kg/m2 [±8,0]) y 19 mujeres con normopeso (IMC medio de 21,6kg/m2 [±1,9]). Se midieron los valores de la sICAM-1, la sVCAM-1 y la sE-selectina en ayuno. Para determinar el efecto de la ingesta de una sobrecarga de glucosa, se les realizó a las mujeres con normopeso (n=6) y a las mujeres obesas (n=6) una prueba de tolerancia oral a la glucosa (carga de 75g, 2h). Se determinaron los valores precarga y poscarga (30, 60 y 120min) de la sICAM-1, la sVCAM-1 y la sE-selectina. Resultados: las mujeres obesas presentaron valores de la sICAM-1 (p=0,03), de la sVCAM-1 (p ≤ 0,0001) y de la sE-selectina (p=0,047) mayores que las mujeres con normopeso. Los valores séricos de la sICAM-1 y la sVCAM-1 se correlacionaron positivamente con el IMC en el grupo de mujeres obesas. Los valores séricos de las moléculas de adhesión no aumentaron luego de la ingesta de una sobrecarga de glucosa en ninguno de los 2 grupos. Conclusión: los valores de la sICAM-1, la sVCAM-1 y la sE-selectina están incrementados en mujeres obesas. La administración de una sobrecarga de glucosa no produce un aumento de los valores séricos de la forma soluble de las moléculas de adhesión (AU)

Results: Obese women had fasting serum levels of sICAM-1 (p=.03), sVCAM-1 (p<.0001) and sE-selectin (p=.047) higher than those of control women. Serum sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 levels were positively related to body mass index in the obese group. Serum adhesion molecules levels were no affected by a high glucose load. Conclusion: Serum sICAM-1, sVCAM-1 and sE-selectin levels are increased in obese women. A high glucose load is not associated with an increase in serum adhesion molecules levels (AU)
